Eat Street Social **** 4/5 stars

I love this part of town. Next to the old Azia, across from the Bad Waitress (I feel like I'm cheating on her) and down the street from Little T's late night tacos, the new Eat Street Social fits right in.

It's a huge space with two large rooms and ginormous booths up front fit for a 3-4 hour dining experience. They were able to cater to our party of 7, no problem.

Amazing art by Nick Harper and Michael Thompson adorns the walls.

Here's the menu, a classic brunch with some upgrades, like lobster and eggs. What?!

A great cocktail list as well...the menu said "Winter Drinks"...I think everyone's still trying to catch up with this early spring!

Nerds...

Lots of natural light...

Here's the bloody. Delicious...garlicy with special bitters and a hint of liquorice, a unique flavor, but so drinkable.

It was a two beverage brunch...this is the Salty Dog with grapefruit juice and some other kind of bitters...they love their bitters here...fantastic.

Al ordered a brunchetizer of a soft boiled egg and banana fluff pancake. It was as good as it looks.

Here's my lobster and eggs on a croissant. Yesssssss. I always love a salad with my breakfast.

Croque madam...

Tasty omelette special: I never remember how to spell omelet??? Is one French?

Biscuits and gravy:

Healthy alternative: breakfast sandwich with bacon.

These girl scouts rolled up outside the window and proceeded to solicit our business. I suppose there are worse things they could be selling illegally on the street (we saw them down at Champions later...). We called the cops, but not before we bought three boxes.

Bathroom art... hmmm...

My fortune for the day...good to know...

Thank you, Eat Street! We love your spacious dining area and your food and drinks do not disappoint. Too bad you're in such a dangerous hood where Girl Scouts are selling cookies on every corner. We'll take the risk again soon. xxoo

Heidi's *** 3/5 stars

On this fine 60-degree 11th of March, we decided to bike our butts to brunch at Heidi's. If you didn't know Heidi's before, it was at 50th and Bryant, but a fire took it down. Now it's in uptown where the old Vera's used to be...

I bet this patio is awesome in the summer...

Chefs are on view for all to see. This ensures that your dish is spit free! In most places, I'd rather not know what goes on back there...

Whoa! Crazy pink art mural by Erik Inkala. Love!

Whoa! Crazy cool tree thing! This is by far the most beautiful brunch room I've ever seen!

It gets better. They bring you fresh banana muffins to start. They were soooooo good. Al was super psyched that they didn't "ruin" them by adding nuts!

A true "brunch" menu has several items that are more "lunch" inspired. I can't disagree with this selection, but I am an egg freak and I wanted to see more egg options... Where's the benny!?

The "Trish" was sparkling wine and some kind of cherry liquor. Not amazing.

If you like a really smokey, watery bloody, this is your man.

Here's the egg sammie. For the record, I didn't call it that, they did. That brioche wasn't amazing either. Looks very manufactured and the texture was dry. I love arugula, cured ham and eggs, but somehow this dish didn't wow me as much as I thought it was. The flavor was a bit bland.

Dp's pappardelle and lobster and scrambled eggs, yes, you heard me. This dish was so yummy, but also cost $18. An $18 brunch dish? Really?

Al's ham and cheese omelet had great flavor, but was a bit oily in texture.

The coffee was great and the cups didn't even near half full before they were whisking around to top them off. It took over a half hour for the food to arrive, so good thing they were attentive! Our server took this blurry photo...

Try Heidi's. It's beautiful and worth it for the banana muffins alone. But expect high prices and book out a couple hours. I don't know if I'll be back for brunch, but definitely for dinner!

Sacramento, CA

My work, QBP, sent me to Sacramento for the weekend to check out the handmade bike show (NAHBS). My co-workers and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, which I wouldn't recommend...but the city itself is pretty great, partially due to its plethora of Karaoke dive bars. We literally stumbled upon the Distillery, located on a dark and random side street and had to see what was inside. I forgot to take pictures of the inside, but I can best describe it as a greasy supper club with low ceilings and an inebriated crowd of regulars that couldn't keep their clothes on very well. Needless to say, we loved it.

After a night of belting karaoke in a greasy dive, you definitely need a greasy breakfast. I jumped on yelp and found a place that was walkable in Midtown. Headhunters video lounge and cafe is a bright, open place with a ton of flatscreen tvs playing dragon cartoons. WTF? I guess this is why it's called a video lounge? Anyway, they have a great patio, too....

These are not my friends, just some randoms that were very concerned that I was taking a picture of the patio...

Veggie omelet. Pretty great, and not actually that greasy. Bacon was perfect and you can tell the potatoes were freshly cut and fried. The only bummer is their espresso machine was broken.

Then we walked the show for a bit and retired on a grass knoll just a block from the convention center with a 12-pk of PBR. We're such emo bike nerds.

Katie and Dirty...

Adam, deep in thought
...

Okay, so moving on to Sunday brunch. I received a text from Adam at 8:30am jarring me awake to realize that my head was pounding from the previous night's festivities. We work hard and play hard. "Breakfast at Capitol Garage. Time to rally!" Okay, fine. It's hard to keep me away from eggs in the morning.

I arrived late, but was excited to enter and see this super cool tikki/voodoo garage. Warm and bright and colorful!

Daily specials...

Here's Katie's breakfast burrito...

Adam's vegan tofu sautee...

Aaron's brisket hash. Yow! I wish I would have gotten this...

Classic benny for me with basil and tomato. Perfect eggs.

They bring you a plate of fresh fruit right away. This is a blood orange. So Dexter...

Thank you, Sacramento, for your lovely brunch and lovely weather!
